An exhibition featuring works by Jeffie Brewer will be on display in the gallery of the Temple College Visual Arts Complex beginning Saturday, Sept. 22.
The exhibit, titled “Idiot Boy,” will consist of drawings and sculptures Brewer has made in the past two years. The title of the show is taken from a William Wordsworth poem and Ron Sexsmith song of the same name.
“I’m thrilled to show at Temple College, especially since it will give me a chance to showcase my drawings,” Brewer said. “Most people know me for my sculptures. A lot of the work I do for galleries and public spaces must meet certain parameters, sizes and themes, and since this show doesn’t have the same restrictions, I can be more free with the end product.”
Brewer describes the drawings he will have in the exhibit as “very intimate and personal.”
Brewer is an assistant professor of sculpture and 3-D design in the School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University. He also owns a design and fabrication company called Orange Cat Inc., which he opened in 2002.
Since his first exhibition in 1998, Brewer’s work has appeared in both solo and group shows across the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico and Asia. He has works in public spaces and private collections throughout the United States. To learn more Brewer and his work, visit http://www.jeffiebrewer.com/
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Brewer will be at the reception to talk about his work.
The exhibit will be on display through Nov 8.
